Creative Fruit

Our minds and thought patterns should include God. With so much power held within our mind, it is important that we stay cognizant of the powerhouse we have inside of us. The function of our mind relies on thoughts, and those thoughts release a power to do incredible things within our lives. It is not fair to ourselves to solely think good thoughts, we must think God’s thoughts.

In Isaiah 55:8-9 God tells Isaiah “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts”[AMPC]. He goes on to say “For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and return not there again, but water the earth and make it bring forth and sprout, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” Isaiah 55:10-11 [AMPC].

There are two lessons we should take from this:

  1. God’s thoughts are exceedingly greater than anything we can conceive.

  2. If we are the sower, and we want God’s seed (Word) to produce in our lives we must align our minds with the Word of God/ God’s Thoughts.

The Bible is not useful because it is holy. The holiness of the Bible explains its importance. The Bible is useful because it contains God’s word to renew our minds. And as a creative, a renewed mind is critical to our vitality. Daily, creatives rely on the mind to see the invisible, bringing what’s on the mind onto a canvas, paper,  screen or instrument. If our minds are clogged with fruitless words our art will be fruitless.

We have to meditate on God’s Word for reasons beyond piety. So I encourage everyone, especially creatives, to take care of their mental health and grow spiritually. Our minds, in many ways, are our playground, it brings joy and satisfaction. And when our minds are darkened by the product of unfruitful words it dims the light of our lives. The light that gives us meaning, the light we use to create, the light that ministers to lost souls.

Be encouraged, we don't need a theology degree to study God’s Word. There are so many resources online and within a church that will help us find the scriptures that will meet our exact need.

To begin, here is a scripture that I find most fitting: “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].” Romans 12:2 [AMPC]

Protect your mind, put God’s Word inside of it and watch your art become more fruitful.
