Focus of Thought:
Self-image is in the eye of the beholder. We learn from what is set before us. It not only shapes us, but becomes our image. For this month, I decided to do a reflection on self-image through the journey of Garden of Buds.
Expression of Thought:
Garden of Buds began June 1st, 2018. Externally, I started the blog with the goal of reaching others. I had no idea I was trying to reach my inner self. When we need the most encouragement, that’s when we should give the most encouragement. I had no idea I was doing just that.
In this first year, I have started making videos, podcasts and published a journal. Not too shabby, but I know God has a lot more in store.
For a while, I wasn’t proud of Garden of Buds. It seemed like a chore God wanted me to do. I felt as a useless vessel for God. Acting as if whatever God instilled within me would leak through the cracks.
I had low self-esteem. I’ve had it for a majority of my life. “Why?” I don’t know, there is so much that has happened where it would be impossible to pinpoint it to one thing. I knew I had a limit to what God could use me for. Of course, He always has different thoughts and different plans.
“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then I shall know even as also I am known” 1 Corinthians 13:12 [KJV]. One day we will understand all, but for now, we see things dimly, even ourselves. On the bright side, we know God, and we can trust Him as our image.
“I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety” Psalm 16:8-9 [AMPC].
When we set God before us wonderful things take place. We are stable, we have joy, we have a rest, and we are safe. When we set other things before us, trouble happens.
Our image is shaped from Him. Creation shows the beauty of His holiness, and we have been part of that since the beginning. In Genesis 1:26 "God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness,.."[AMPC] . When we look in the mirror we should see God gleaming through our imperfections.
Now, I see myself as a light illuminating the darkness around me. I am happy to be the vessel that God created me to be. I am satisfied with whatever God can pour out through me.
That’s where I am on this journey of Garden of Buds.
Hopefully, you guys continue to follow me.
For my buddies, I want you to know that outside of God you are the best thing that is going to happen to you. As you are in Him and Him in you, it is important to love the inside and outside of you. Don’t let responsibilities define you. The best part about you, is you, not your craft. Be the light that is all you need to be, that is all you can be.
